This semester saw the inauguration of the lecture series “Fascination of Materials Science & Engineering” for first-year students in our bachelor’ degree programme of the same name. The participation of our research group and the invitation of our alumna Dr.-Ing. Ronak Bahrami met with great interest among the newcomers.

In January 2020, the 14th International Business Plan Competition (IBPC) took place in Sao Paulo under the theme of “Integrating People with Disabilities”. Students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Bayreuth, and the host Universidade de São Paulo came together to develop new business concepts. In the prior selection process, 12 bachelor’s and master’s students of the University of Bayreuth from the fields of business administration and industrial engineering had managed to qualify. At the end of the competition, the jury of experts chose the winning team “SignSay” for their original presentation of an application for real-time translation of sign language and spoken language for hearing-impaired people. The University of Bayreuth was represented twice in the winning team, by Tobias Baumann and Anne Michaelis.
